The tags themselves were simply white with the messages written in black ink. Some tags contained messages, that when paired with an image, may invoke thoughts on self-worth or humor, or irony, or sarcastic cynicism, religion, consumerism, and commercialism. This was in an attempt to have a more intimate response as the viewer looked through the images. ![]() I explained that this was part of the experience when entering a flea market in our part of the world (as I assume in many others, with many more cultures integrated). I asked my audience if anyone had trouble in understanding the language, to which some raised there hands. When the viewer goes to the next image he now has an expectancy and will begin to assess the piece and reflect on it in much the manner that a window shopper would inspect the wares of the market. That of interacting with the piece by reaching for the tag and reading it, then examining the image and sparking a relation of some sort. Some of the tags contained the same type of sales pitch but in spanish such as "prestamos disponibles" and "bueno, bonito, barato" to reflect the cultural aspect of the flea market. The tags also give the viewer now an active part for which my work was intended. ![]() Each image was accompanied by a 'sales tag' which contained a cliche sales pitch or line such as "genuine imitation" or "satisfaction guaranteed". These booths were separated by a 12 inch spacing to act as individual compositions as well as a part of a body of work. My concept touched several themes one of which was that of creating an emotional landscape through imagery by introducing strong cultural subject matter to my audience as I had them travel through an experience at the flea market. This was done through a selection of images engaging in a fashion where they were presented in groups or 'booths'. In the end, I presented 13 images and 1 image composite for my 2nd project.
